Recreate? Re-create?

So these are my favorite recreation shoes! They are not running shoes or excercise shoes, they are golf shoes! Golf is one of my favorite recreations.

I do not find it funny that the two words re – creation and recreation are spelled exactly the same just pronounced a bit different. Re-creation, as defined at dictionary.com is to create anew. Recreation is a diversion for refreshment and enjoyment. When we recreate, we re-create!

As women, it is especially important to take time out to recreate. Our bodies, our emotions, our hearts need to be re-created. We can get bogged down in the daily drudgery of life that the joy of living gets lost.  To often we feel guilty if we take time for recreation and something mundane does not get done, like laundry or dishes.

When I play golf, I am outside enjoying the birds singing, and even deer run across the fairways! The sun feels good on my face and shoulders. When I swing the club, I feel powerful, even if the ball goes no where near my intended target! With every swing, I have to clear my mind and focus on the shot.  When my round is over, it does not matter what I shot or how tired I am, I always feel refreshed and renewed.

Ladies, put on your recreation shoes and go re-create yourself! Let me know what you did and how it re-created you.

So what are we hiding?

So  last week Jay and I were browsing in some stores and I came upon a HUGE purse that I just loved. So of course I had to model it in front of a mirror to see what it would look like on my shoulder. It was fantastic! As I looked in the mirror at this awesome purse, another though struck me. This awesomely HUGE purse covered a “multitude of sin”, so to speak. The purse made me look thinner because it hid my love handles! I had to have it!

Gotta love the purse!

Later, as I reflected on the purse, which btw I did not purchase, I thought of the value we as women place on our clothing and our shoes.  I wanted this purse very badly and was willing to pay an arm and a leg for it because it made me look thin!

My brain pushed me further in this thought process: As women, we hide our true selves behind our clothes, our children, our husbands, our jobs, our volunteer work, and a multitude of other things. We are afraid at times to be who we have been created to be because of what someone else might think.

Ladies, be true to yourself.  Quit masquerading as the ordinary. Embrace who you have been created to be. Live life to the full…as YOU!

” I love your shoes!”

Think I need these!

How many times do you hear this statement from men? NEVER! Women make this exclamation all the time! Women look at each others shoes. WHY? I am convinced it is because shoes tell us alot about the person wearing them. We can see their likes and dislikes. We see their personality. We see their mood.

Here is what I want you to do: Next time you are out at a function, party, or wherever people may be – even work – observe the shoes of the women. Then ask yourself, ” What do those shoes tell me about her?” Get a glimpse into the life and personality of women by seeing their shoes! Then let me know your glimpses into the women and their shoes! Tell me what you observe!

Funny thing…

Rock star shoes!

So last weekend I was performing and  my feet were killing me so I decided instead of wearing my brand new high heeled rock star shoes, I’d put on some flats. I figured what’s the big deal, shoes are shoes, and these flats had bling on them so they were still performance worthy right? WRONG!

As soon as I stepped on stage something did not feel right. I felt WAAAAYYYY to comfortable, relaxed, almost lazy. I could not focus, all I wanted to do was sit down and enjoy the show! MY SHOW!

Immediately I realized that shoes DO make the show! or the girl! or whatever!!! My high heeled rock star shoes keep me on my toes-literally! Those shoes make me stand up straighter. They give me confidence. They help me focus. My flats are for comfort and relaxation, not performing!

So my dear friends- here is the truth- shoes make the difference. Now lest I appear shallow…let me tell you a few things- Ephesians 6:14 talks about the armor of God and having our feet prepared with readiness. Our feet take us where we need to go on any given day and they must be contained within the correct shoes for what we need to accomplish that day! What if you are hanging with your kids all day and you put on your rock star heels? Not gonna work!

Its gotta be the shoes girls! What are you hoping to accomplish today and what are your feet wearing?

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!

Just by way of introduction,  I want to tell you a little about this blog. For many women, the way we see ourselves is totally dependent on our perception of how others see us. Well here is my advice – GET OVER IT!

We are unique creatures, created by a extraordinary God, who has given us unique gifts and abilities. We need to quit filtering our concept of ourselves thru the media and  our mothers.  We need to stop looking at other women and wishing we had what they had in materials, bodies, and relationships. We need to celebrate our uniqueness!

One of my uniqueness is that I love shoes! I believe shoes tell us alot about ourselves and can actually be a window into the person you really are.  Thus the name of the blog. Shoes are unique to the individual wearing them. Someone may have the same pair of shoes but the way they wear those shoes is unique to their chosen style.

This blog will be fun, and full of real life stories of real women and the issues we all face. I want to encourage women to see themselves for who they are and to love the person God has made them. I have a dear friend, Beth McAndrews, who used this phrase once and I love it! We must learn to “be comfortable in our own skin”!

So join me in this journey of discovering how to be comfortable in your own skin! Take a look at your shoes today and tell me what you think those shoes say about you.
